God's question before providing your needs

Exodus 4:2-3

² So the Lord asked him, “What are you holding?”“A stick,” he answered. ³ The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.” When Moses threw it down, it turned into a snake, and he ran away from it.

So many people today have prayed and lost their faith because things aren't working the way they were expecting. They have prayed, believed God and done everything they were told to do inorder for them to get quick answers but unfortunately, God hasn't shown up yet, and has been years already.

But today, the Lord  is asking you a simple question. "What do you have in your hand?".

What are you having in your hand?

When you look back in verse three, the Lord had appeared to Moses and told him to Go and tell the king of Egypt to let the Israelites go for three days and worship him in the desert.

God even gave him an assurance that even if the Egyptians won't let them go, he would perform miracles until they were freed.

But Moses was not convinced, he was asking himself alot of questions.

I want you to imagine this situation, he killed someone and he was hunted by the Egyptians but then God comes in saying, go to the same Egyptians and tell them them to let go all the Israelites slaves. I know they will resist you but I'll be with you, I am God and I work signs miracle and wonders. And yet, Moses had never seen such a miracle before.

God is saying, I will split the mountains, I will send hailstorm etc. What would you do, if it were you? You rather say, I know you can do all that but can't you send someone else.

Why, because he knew, the moment he is there and this promising God fail to show up, he would be in great trouble.

And another thing, he was afraid. Why? Not only had he ruined his reputation by killing somebody but he had also lost his position. He used to be a son to a king and now, going back on a donkey with angry children to give king a command, he felt it's impossibility and it was so real.

And  Moses ended up saying, Lord, please send someone else, and he kept bringing excuses one after another but those were his two main concern.

Today, so many people have sat back and refused to take the opportunity that come along their way because when they look back, they realized they have lost all the reputation and besides that they are not qualified to do so.

Nobody will listen to me, nobody will hire me, my academic qualification is too low. I can't afford to be all that great.

But the Lord asked Moses, What do you have in your hand?

He thought, just a small stick. And yet God needed that stick to show him his greatness for the rest of their journey. At God's command, Moses threw the stick to the ground, it turned into a snake and he had to run away from it. God instructed him to pick the snake from the tail, he did so and it turned back into a stick again.

I could imagine if it were some of us here. Someone would ran and never return to the bush again, that would be the end of talking to God.

But when you follow the scripture properly, it was that stick, Moses used to split the red sea, and do many great things.

I want to encourage you today, don't look back neither should you  undermine what you already have. God wants to use that thing which everyone knows, it can't work, he uses it to make his power known.

When he uses that small, weak thing. Then people will know this wasn't just your ability but God's.

Gideon and the Midianites

Let's look at Gideon, when God told him he would have to set free the Israelites, he answered God and said,

Judges 6:15-16

¹⁵ Gideon replied, “But Lord, how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least important member of my family.”

¹⁶ The Lord answered, “You can do it because I will help you. You will crush the Midianites as easily as if they were only one man.”

When the time for battle came, Gideon called many people and they all gathered up. They were about 32,000 men, this number sound great but their enemies were too many to be counted. Despite their being fewer in number, Judges 7:2 tells us that

² The Lord said to Gideon, “The men you have are too many for me to give them victory over the Midianites. They might think that they had won by themselves, and so give me no credit.

Then He told Gideon to tell everyone who is afraid to go home and 10,000 men left and 22,000 remained. This was so strange, but still Judges 7:4-7 tells us that

⁴ Then the Lord said to Gideon, “You still have too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will separate them for you there. If I tell you a man should go with you, he will go. If I tell you a man should not go with you, he will not go.”

⁵ Gideon took the men down to the water, and the Lord said to him, “Separate everyone who laps up the water with his tongue like a dog, from everyone who gets down on his knees to drink.”

⁶ There were 300 men who scooped up water in their hands and lapped it; all the others got down on their knees to drink.

⁷ The Lord said to Gideon, “I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites with the 300 men who lapped the water. Tell everyone else to go home.”

Many people who have archived great things forget to give God the glory he deserves, because they thing it was their own effort, despite the fact that God had been with them front the beginning. Instead they say, "Behind every successful man, there is a woman" no, Not God but a woman. That is why God chooses what the world consider as outcast and moulds them into something great.

1 Samuel 2:6-9 tells us that

⁶ The Lord kills and restores to life;     he sends people to the world of the dead     and brings them back again.

⁷ He makes some poor and others rich;     he humbles some and makes others great.

⁸ He lifts the poor from the dust     and raises the needy from their misery. He makes them companions of princes     and puts them in places of honour. The foundations of the earth belong to the Lord;     on them he has built the world.

⁹ “He protects the lives of his faithful people,     but the wicked disappear in darkness;     a man does not triumph by his own strength.

I want you to know this, God is not limited by what you have, he's not limited by your strength. Am asking you to do this one thing believe that he can and he will.

He said, my power work best in your weakness. ( 2Corinthians 12:9)

God wants to do things in your life that people will start asking, "how could he archive this, he must have gone somewhere" and you will just be smiling at them because you know the glory of God did it for you.

What do you have in the house

The shunem woman and Elisha

Do you remember the woman who came to Elisha  2 Kings 4:1-7

¹ The widow of a member of a group of prophets went to Elisha and said, “Sir, my husband has died! As you know, he was a God-fearing man, but now a man he owed money to has come to take away my two sons as slaves in payment for my husband's debt.”

² “What shall I do for you?” he asked. “Tell me, what have you got at home?”“Nothing at all, except a small jar of olive oil,” she answered.

³ “Go to your neighbours and borrow as many empty jars as you can,” Elisha told her.

⁴ “Then you and your sons go into the house, close the door, and start pouring oil into the jars. Set each one aside as soon as it is full.”

⁵ So the woman went into her house with her sons, closed the door, took the small jar of olive oil, and poured oil into the jars as her sons brought them to her.

⁶ When they had filled all the jars, she asked if there were any more. “That was the last one,” one of her sons answered. And the olive oil stopped flowing.

⁷ She went back to Elisha, the prophet, who said to her, “Sell the olive oil and pay all your debts, and there will be enough money left over for you and your sons to live on.”

So, don't ignore the little things you have, some people believe that, if they don't get a certain academic qualification their life will never change. If they don't get a good paying Job, they will always have to struggle, if they don't get a large sum of money, their life will never change.

But I challenge you today, believe God and ask him to do for you something. And he will use the little you have and cause an abundance.

Don't be these kind of people in the book of James

They don't ask, others ask to satisfy their filthy desires and others doubt. These three, the book of James said they will never get what they desire.

Jesus said, ask and you will receive. Then he also said, if you have faith as small as a mustered seed, you will order situations, even mountains with tremble at your word. Nothing will be impossible (Matthew 17:20)

May God bless you!

Prayer

Father I thank you that you never get tired of me even in my weakest moment and I can't imagine you are using the little things I have to show your glory in my life. May your mighty hand of miracle continue raining an abundance in our life. In Jesus name I have prayed, amen.
