The greatest thing everyone needs

The evening express 05

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could  remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.  (I Corinthians 13:1-2)

The question now comes, "what is charity?"  Ever since then, had been thinking that charity is giving help to the needy, and that was all. But if you continue reading verse 3....

3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, I am nothing. You can now prove that he didn't just mean helping the needy, it was beyond that.

Most bible translations substitute this word with love, but when we continue with verse 4, the apostle expressed his meaning of charity as:

charity suffereth long, and is kind (you endure and ontop of that you are being kind).

Charity envieth not, the word envy means that state of being discontented with yourself  because of someone else's achievements. In other words,"that guy has what I am supposed to be having". This person ends up being unhappy and in most cases wished for the downfall of the other too. so that they both be at the same level. The state of wanting to be ontop always, if it's someone else you speak evil to make Him seem bad.

The apostle continued, charity vaunteth not itself, To vaunt is to brag and boast of your greatness or something you like  or  when you exaggerate your greatness.

Charity is not puffed up- to be puffed up means you have a feeling of importance.

In vers 5, He continued: charity does not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh not evil. 6 And rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth. Charity beareth all things, believeth all things, hope all things, endureth all things.

The difference between charity and (prophecy/tongues)

8 charity never faileth. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways.

12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known.

In other words, you can prophecy, but that's not the full knowledge of that thing you are seeing, but when the day of perfection cometh, all things will become plain, and there will be no need of prophecy because things will be plain and clear.

Prophecy is just for edification, exhortation and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3), but charity  leads to heaven.

That's why Jesus said, "on that day, many will come to me saying Lord, in your name, we prophecied, in you name, we healed the sick and performed many miracles( he was meaning their faith). But I will say, I don't know you evil doers, depart from me"

Admonition

1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, and charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. Prophecy and faith ends on the earth, but charity continues even in heaven.
